Ceramic Industry Philippines

Smuggles ceramic tiles and importation of ceramics from other countries like China in such quantities both in absolute terms and relative to domestic production, has severely affected the ceramic industry in the Philippines. Because of its cheaper cost, many consumers preferred them compared with quality assured ceramic wares locally manufactured. Also, about P446 million in potential taxes was lost to smuggling last year by the Bureau of Customs.

According to the Philippine Embassy in Australia, decorative ceramics is one of the fastest growing sub-sectors among the gifts and housewares sectors. Also, exports of decorative ceramics in the last five years consistently showed an upward trend. Also, many foreign investors are interested to the ceramic industry in the Philippines because of its abundance in raw materials and cheap labor.
